Imagine waking up every day to the sound of bombs, the cries of frightened children, and the weight of uncertainty bearing down on you. For many families in Gaza, this is the grim reality. Among them is Mohammad Sursour, a devoted father of four, who now faces an unimaginable challenge: surviving each day amidst war and destruction, with no home, no safety and no means to care for his loved ones.
Mohammad’s story is one of resilience, hope and an unwavering love for his family. Today, he reaches out to us with an urgent plea, a call for help to escape the devastation that has become his daily life.
A Life Shattered by War
“My name is Mohammad Sursour, and I am a Palestinian from Gaza. I come to you with an urgent plea that comes straight from my heart. My family and I are in dire need of your support and time is of the essence.”
Mohammad’s words are filled with both strength and heartbreak. Like any father, he had dreams and aspirations for his children, but the ongoing conflict has robbed him of peace, stability and a future. Living in Gaza has meant enduring the unimaginable, with days defined by airstrikes, evacuations and witnessing the world crumble around them. Yet, Mohammad’s hope remains – a hope for safety, security, and a chance to give his children the life they deserve.
In the recent escalation of violence, Mohammad’s family was forced to leave their home in the middle of the night. His wife had just given birth to their youngest child, a baby born amidst the chaos and terror. Just two days after the birth, they had to walk more than 12 kilometers to escape the bombings in their city, moving towards what they hoped would be a safe place in the southern Gaza Strip. But the journey was excruciating, especially for his wife, who was still recovering, and for their young children, who had to witness scenes no child should ever see.
“My children are haunted by what they’ve seen. They have nightmares and suffer from anxiety, their innocent minds scarred by the violence and destruction that surrounded us.”
Mohammad and his family are now sheltering in Rafah, near the southernmost border of Gaza. But safety is still out of reach, as even their place of refuge has come under attack. They face constant threats and unimaginable hardships, lacking even the basic necessities for survival, such as clean water, food and medical supplies. His children are showing signs of malnutrition, dehydration and other health complications, with no immediate relief in sight.
